Community Healthcare Investments and Pharmaceuticals

Community Health Investments currently manages the following investments:
  • Phambili Hospital Products, Dismed Group, including Pharmaceuticals, Direct and Criticare, Medical Distributors and Medtecs
  • Community Healthcare Plan, Lodox, Air Liquide Healthcare, Dräger Medical, Sonke Pharmaceuticals and Be-Tabs, including Pharmaceuticals
  • Phambili-Dismed Group is owned 100% by CIH, falling under Community Healthcare Division. The core business of the group is to provide Total Health Care Solutions to the public and private sectors in South Africa and SADC countries:
 
  • Supply and distribution of medical; surgical, dental, pharmaceutical
  • Medical Equipment and Consumables
  • Technical service and after sales support
  • Project management and consultancy on Turn Key Projects
 

The vision of the Phambili-Dismed Group is to be “Leaders in provision of total health care solutions”.

Phambili – Dismed Group consists of the following divisions with specific focus areas:

Phambili Hospital Products: Supply health care solutions to Government health sector and consultancy on Turn Key Projects.

Dismed Pharmaceuticals: Manufacturing and supply of pharmaceutical products.

Dismed Criticare: Manufacturing and supply of intravenous fluids; irrigation fluids and small volume parenterals.

Dismed Trauma and Direct: Provision of trauma and provide Health & Safety Industry Solutions.

Medical Distributors: Supply and distribution of medical; dental; analytical and beauty and recreation products through sole agency agreements. Provision of medical and technical service support solutions.

Medtecs Phambili: provision of medical textiles and other consumables. Phambili-Dismed is currently looking to expand its portfolio and scope of manufacturing activities with partnerships or acquisitions congruent with its strategic thrust towards local skills and empowerment.

  • Sonke Pharmaceuticals: Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited (Ranbaxy), India’s largest pharmaceutical company, and CIH entered into an agreement to form a Joint Venture (JV) christened “Sonke Pharmaceuticals (Pty) Ltd” (Sonke), to market and sell Ranbaxy’s range of Anti-Retroviral (ARV) products in South Africa and other African markets. Ranbaxy hold 70% equity, while CIH have a 30% stake in this JV.
 

The JV markets the products under the trademark “Sonke” in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. The product delivery mechanism to the patients is through government tenders, retail pharmacists, HIV/AIDS Disease Management Companies, Medical Aids, Non Governmental Organisations and Independent Community treatment organisations.

  • Be-Tabs Investments and Pharmaceuticals: Ranbaxy Laboratories acquired Be-Tabs Pharmaceuticals, the largest manufacturer of penicillin formulations in South Africa, making Ranbaxy the fifth largest generic pharmaceutical company in South Africa. Furthermore, the company is one of the few generics pharmaceutical companies to invest in and develop local manufacturing functionality.
